# Sizing the Ring

The Research Ring needs to fit snugly on the participant's finger to capture high quality data. Any finger will work, but the inner finger upper proximal phalanges work best. Those are the finger pads that are closest to your palm on the index, middle, and ring finger.

### Ring Shims

Each ring is supplied with 8 sizing shims that allow the ring to be sized to US standard ring whole sizes of 6 to 13.

**⚠Warning: The size of the shims present a choking hazard for children under the age of 3. Please store and secure appropriately.**

Insert the shims as shown above. Push the shim into the ring until it is flush.

Remove the shims by pushing the top of the shim in the opposite way of travel from insertion. Avoid using sharp objects or metallic edges to remove shims.

### Recommended Ring Orientation

When using the ring it’s best to orient the connector opening towards the participant so the shim can slide out when removing the ring. This is especially important when the ring fit is snug.

If the ring is difficult to remove, try removing the sizing shim while on the finger. You can also apply some moisture or lotion to the knuckle to reduce the friction of removal.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.senstream.com/senstream-researcher-ring-application-user-guide/senstream-research-ring/sizing-the-ring.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
